Some visitors have expressed that the cash-only policy might be inconvenient, especially for those who prefer card payments. While many cherish the traditional vibe it brings, it can pose challenges in a predominantly cashless society. A few customers noted they found the local accents difficult to understand, which occasionally leads to miscommunication during their orders. Some diners wish there were more seating options available, particularly during busy lunch hours when the place fills up quickly.
A handful of reviews mentioned the unique yet polarizing taste of certain dishes, like the chilli con carne on chips and the different types of curry sauces. While many love them, they are not for everyone. These quirks, however, add to the character of the chippy, making it a true reflection of local preferences.
A popular, very clean CASH ONLY chippy serving freshly cooked fish n chips, plenty of free street parking outside not too far from Trafford Park to get your order back to work nice and hot!!
The food was so good, gravy was so tasty, not had that good for a long time now. I saw fritters in the display of food to choose from. Not many chippys offer them now. I was put off a little by accents of the chippy running the place. The excilent food was as a testament to the British Chippy is not extinct. The locals opened the door for me, it was full of costomers. Locals know where to go for decent food with standards. Thanks Helens chippy just finished every delicious morcel on the tray. Would recommend they expand, opening another chippy just across the roundabout where a Chinese chippy has shut down.
At 6.30pm on a Tuesday there was no queue. Bright, clean premises. Prompt service from friendly server. Asked if I wanted salt & vinegar. Had Steak Pudding, Chips and Peas. (First chippy I've been to in 3 months of living in the Manchester area that's had Steak Pudding on the menu). Everything was perfectly cooked, and the best traditional chips I've had in a long time. If you're in the area it's well worth trying, and excellent value.
Helen street chippy is a fantastic chip shop in peel green. Located on the corner on Helen street. Parking is street parking only but I've never had an issue finding a place. The staff are nice. There's a cold drinks fridge at an average price. The chips are lovely. Two types of curry sauce. Always hot and tasty food. Would recommend and I'm a regular customer here
Food has always been decent here but in the last 2 years with the new owners this has now become our favourite chippy - puddings and chips MELT in the mouth, together with it being great value and the owners being so welcoming and friendly, absolute 5 stars! 🤩
Very big portion and the fish is very, very tender and juicy. The only thing is you need to pay for the ketchup, 30p a pack, which is fair.
This chippy is one of the best I've eaten at. The fish is always crisp and fresh and the chips are just as they should be. Large portions for a fair price. The owners/staff are super pleasant, always with a smile and they get to know their regulars, knowing what their previous orders where, and asking do they want the same. Nice touch. Must say though, l would like it if they used some form of paper underneath the fish x chips as the box now used, tends to seep grease through the bottom, and onto my trousers! (We eat them in the car). But that apart, we love them.
